Breaking Free:

         Preventing Disaster 2012

A Discipleship/Spiritual Awakening Church Emphasis

In 2012, our association will be emphasizing Discipleship as a way to draw closer to Him for a revival and spiritual awakening in the hearts of our church families. The emphasis will be entitled "Breaking Free: Preventing Disaster." The challenge will be to the leaders of the church to commit to discipleship as Jesus taught His disciples the depths of true discipleship. From the title emphasis meaning, if we don’t do something to change the direction of the church, we are heading for disaster in the life of the church.

The Need to Look and Listen to the Condition of our Association Churches Today.

Our Decline:

Year     Baptisms    Sunday School       VBS        DT

2006        171                 1838                    1967        597

2011        129                 1660                    1472          ? (no longer reported on ACP)

What will it take?

1. Church Leaders who are disciples.

2. The Church to see the true condition of the downward spiral and be willing to change.

3. The church must repent and return to God with a clean heart.

4. To discover Biblical ways to develop true disciples. (Example Back Page)

5. Commit to the task at hand. Even if it’s only a few.

The Challenge-

Who is willing to follow?

Luke 9:23  Then he said to them all: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.

(Commitment to Small Group Discipleship)

1. Find a small (3-4) group who seems to be searching and wanting to grow deeper in an understanding and relationship with the Lord.

2. Ask for a commitment to complete the small group journey. (No maybe’s)

3 Cover three tasks or studies with the purpose to help each pupil mature in three areas:

a. Christian Faith: What it means to be a Christian

b. Jesus on Leadership: Learn and practice what Jesus taught on Servant Leadership

c. Missions: What are my gifts and be willing to use those gifts on Mission for our Lord.

Note: There is detailed materials that you can use in your small group.

4. Ask each participant to start their own group at the conclusion of study.

 Books need!

The Breckinridge County Detention Center Library Fund is in need of paperback books or financial donations to purchase books.  If you have some paperback books you'd like to donate, please call Sherry Payne, at 756-5832 or contact the association office.  Here is an opportunity for your church group to impact your community for Christ!  Remember due to security rules books must be paperback, no hardback books or magazines.

If you would like to assist in a ministry to our troops in Afghanistan here's a great opportunity.  English Baptist Church is in contact with a former pastor who serves as a Chaplain to our troops stationed in Afghanistan.

Because of the remoteness of some of the outposts his troops are in need of the following....any personal care products for men AND women....shampoo, soap, deodorant, hand wipes, they are in real need of small packets or laundry detergent often found in the "travel section" of Walmart.  Any candy, cookies, snacks that will survive 120 degree heat.  With your box of goodies you might include encouraging notes and cards.

Recently, one recipient of their ministry stopped by the church to thank the congregation and gave them a flag flown by the troops.  English Baptist Church will include items with their regular shipments, but it would be nice to assist them financially with shipping.  Contact Susan at English sueernie1973@bbtel.com or 547-3728 to make drop off arrangements.
